Mr. Dupree says he wants his work to be "mysterious." When asked what kind of art he creates James says, "I wanted to be totally universal, not black art, not African American art.”

Mr. Dupree is inspired by his surroundings. It is the everyday ordinary things in life that spark his creativity. “I am influenced by my daily life. My daily structure. My daily influences. My daily responses to just getting up, getting out of bed and walking down the street. I make art like nature. Like a tree. In constant growth.”
