Global Youth Murals

It is my pleasure to welcome you to this exhibit of People to People International's Global Youth Murals.

The artwork that you are about to view was created by school children from different countries for the Global Youth Murals project which is sponsored annually by our organization. The project invites youth worldwide to illustrate their communities and cultures, and express their ideas about global events and peace. The outcome is remarkable, vibrant artwork that explores many subjects while employing various materials and techniques. I believe you will be touched by the maturity, pride and optimism expressed by the artists.

The exhibit title, “Peace through Understanding,” is appropriate since these words are at the heart of People to People International's mission. To achieve a more peaceful world community, we must of course first understand one another. To gain understanding, we must have ways to learn about one another. Projects such as Global Youth Murals enable youth to educate us about their countries, their citizens, and the beliefs and concerns important to them.

My grandfather, U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower, was an avid artist and he would be especially proud of the artwork in this exhibit. When he founded People to People International on September 11, 1956, it was with the firm belief that if people are able to communicate with each other, share experiences or embrace their differences, peace will surely follow. What better way to communicate than through art, a language universal to everyone.

Enjoy the exhibit.
